The November full moon is the festival of lights among Buddhists. In Myanmar it is called "Tazaungdiang" and is often celebrated with spectacular illuminated self-made balloons. Since my Myanmar visa was no longer valid for the November full moon, I chose the counterpart in Chiang Mai \/ Thailand.<\/p>\n

Here it is celebrated on the one hand as "Loi Krathong". Krathongs are artful little boats, mostly from banana leaves and flowers, which are exposed with candle on a river.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, it is celebrated as "Yi Peng". Here one lanterns made of rice paper (quasi the small version of a balloon) rise.
\nWhich is totally beautiful.<\/p>\n

But at the Feast of Light, the streets are decorated with lanterns and candles, for the opening (two days before full moon) there is a traditional Lanna dance with candles, lanterns are made ... Until then at full moon even between 19 o'clock and 1 o'clock even the air traffic of the second largest city Thailand is set and the sky belongs entirely to the lanterns. And of course the full moon!<\/p>\n

Here are a few pictures and a video, which of course can not even reflect the atmosphere. But with a bit of imagination you can maybe imagine it a bit ...<\/p>\n
