The highlight of our tour was the visit to the largest salt desert on this planet, Salar de Uyuni. One sunset, one night and one sunrise plus half a day we were allowed to spend on, in and over the meter-thick salt layer. Approximately 140 × 110 km, the area is large, estimated 10 billion tons of salt are still there.
Both at sunset and sunrise the moon was (nearly full) the real star. The sun provided the best light. (From a personal point of view, I've been able to take 2-3 photos, which are probably among my favorite photos ever.)
The night we spent in a "salt hotel", which is built entirely of salt inside: beds, tables, chairs ... Even the inner walls were built of salt bricks! Salt isolated but not better: the dinner we sat as always shivering without heating at the table.
At sunrise, we went to the Isla Incahuasi - the absolute highlight: an island that rises from the salt desert and is overgrown by hundreds of years old cacti! An absolutely unreal appearance!
Wonderful to look up into the distance, say goodbye to the night and enjoy the warm colors of the early days! Absolutely uplifting!
Last but not least, we drove a few tens of kilometers through the salt desert by car and - of course - used the perfect horizon for the usual silly photos ... Great childish fun!
Wow! The pictures really outperform everything in your blog. Even New Zealand.
