Rainbow Mountain

Incredible scenery! Just look at photos - they speak for themselves !!

(This could end the blog entry, but now one, two info :)

- The colors (of the mountain) in the pictures are really like that (which you can not tell by the way some of the worst post-processed photos in the net ... You can really laugh ...)!

- The colors? Different minerals have colored successive layers of sediment so beautifully. And through movements in the earth's crust were from the horizontal layers at some point rather vertical.

- You should be acclimatised: the viewpoint is at 5020 meters altitude (new personal height record!).

- The possible trailheads are about three hours away by car from Cusco.

Little downer: the mountain (which is actually called "Vinicunca"), is now about the same with Machu Picchu as the main attraction of South America. Even for me as a season-trained man it was difficult in this case, how many people are uncoordinated on the mountain. That only as a warning!
Still completely understandable that so many (including me) want to see that. The next time (or as a tip) I would 1. try to go the "old route". There seems to be less going on and you have the crowds "only" at the viewpoint. And 2. book a private transport to be on site earlier if necessary. Or 3. just put together a multi-day tour through the incredible valleys!

Still: absolutely fantastic scenery and great to have seen that!

On the (great) pictures it looks very lonely. No trace of crowds ...
