At the beach

After a few days in the rainforest, we also wanted to see the beach. For this we have the "tip of Borneo", that is the northern tip of Borneo.

To shorten the way in the little tourist area, we have spontaneously laughed a scheduled flight from Sandakan to Kudat (the giant airport in the photos). When we stood on the airfield and saw our little "private plane", we were - both not 100% flightfest - a bit different.
The 19-seat propeller aircraft was not fully utilized, but at least there was a third passenger ? Only the service on board was lousy ... No staff except the two pilots, who could look over the shoulder for the whole time with the best view from the front Cockpit! We had a good time in every way (such small planes are very sensitive to clouds and weather) and have survived!

At Bavang Jamal Beach we have a very basic accommodation in a traditional built longhouse. Of course we were the only ones and also the beach and the sunsets we had for us.
A hike then took us to the Tip of Borneo itself. The northernmost point of the island, where the South China Sea and the Sulu Sea meet. As can be seen in the photos, but you see nothing .. So not as at comparable points as the Cape Reinga (NZ) or the Cape of Good Hope (SA).
Otherwise: nice food, do little, sleep (very hot without a fan or air conditioning).

Admittedly, it was too hot to sleep, which is why we soon after KK are on to make a trip to the island of Manukan. There then the same program plus encounter with some monitors, especially "Erich", a two-meter-long chunk that ran across the way to greet us. If you look at him: who does not think of Stone Age and Dragon ...
