The deep religiosity of the Burmese and the presence of the monks brings a reverent moments ... Like here:
To the very young monk: "When did you decide to become a monk?"
He: "Me? Not at all! My big brother signed me in. "
But now for something completely different:
After Bagan and Mandalay, the (more green in Bagan) rather "urban-cultural" part of the journey, we wanted to go to nature: to Kalaw in the mountains. Finally wear three layers again and get along without AC.
It has a super pleasant atmosphere and the landscape of gently rolling green hills is one of my favorites.
We got into a procession right at the beginning, in which a lot of children carried terribly many sweets to a local monastery to donate. Whether only for the Buddha or for the monks I do not know ... Anyone definitely has a sugar problem now.
Otherwise, I have just done what I like to do on vacation ... hiking and eating! For one, there is the landscape where I can not get enough of it. On the other hand, there is stone oven pizza (also for Marieke also still red wine, rather the exception) and everywhere delicious Indian - since the British times are here many Nepalese and Indians at home.
Does anyone know this mint bread (Pudina Paratha)? Sensational.
The discovery of slowness
Regular 50 kilometers in three and a half hours? This is either comfortable with the bike ... or with the Burmese railway!
It rocks funny as in the children's roller coaster, no windowpane is in the way and you can see a lot of the great scenery. Really a highlight!
(At least the distance between Kalaw and Shwenyaung is the right amount.)
Pictures bonus material, among others:
Buddha provocative ?!
Witzbildmaler explain the dangers of the web (the details pay off!).
Inviting lounge at the train station.
And "I still have a hard time with street names".
